Elizabeth Yates McGreal
Wildflower Garden
Shieling Forest State Park, Peterborough, NH 03458
Elizabeth Yates McGreal Wildflower Garden in Shieling Forest State Park, Peterborough, New Hampshire.
The garden consists of many wildflowers, ferns, shrubs and trees nestled in a little corner of Shieling Forest.
On the east side is a babbling brook and stone walls, more or less, bound it to the east and west. It was planted by the Peterborough Garden Club members in 1991. Over the years, long hours of care and maintenance have gone into the wildflower garden's care to sustain its beauty and horticultural treasurers. However, years of high water and erosion have taken its toll. Subsequently, many plants have disappeared or died. Most recently, yearly maintenance consists of branch pickup and mulching. A full audit to identify the location and species of wildflowers that remain is planned for 2021. This will pave the way to add new wildflowers in the future.
Please visit the Wildflower Garden, especially in mid-April to early
June, when the flowers are popping up.
All members are welcome to join the work crew. Please contact the
committee chairs to volunteer. ( see your yearbook)
